Patients Gain Affordable, Personalized Solutions with Dr. Nicholas Spirtos
Dr. Spirtos is the kind of clinically-oriented physician you will appreciate. When possible, he starts with simple approaches to infertility treatment that many times result in success without the initial need for complex, higher-cost options. Adhering to a philosophy that sometimes less is more, patients receive treatments individually tailored to meet their budgets and personal beliefs. Most patients complete infertility treatments without In Vitro Fertilization.
“I give couples choices and they choose which course of action is most appropriate,” says Dr. Spirtos. “Every pregnancy is a miracle, but some pregnancies require couples to work hard. My personality is that I like challenges and I am willing to work with them.”
In 1987, following a fellowship in infertility at Detroit’s Wayne State University, Dr. Spirtos became the 64th Board Certified Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility specialist in the nation. He then helped develop the first In Vitro Fertilization program in Akron at Akron City Hospital, now part of Summa Health System. He delivered his first In Vitro baby in 1985, just five years after the first In Vitro Fertilization birth took place in the United States.
An Associate Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Northeast Ohio Medical University, Dr. Spirtos has contributed to numerous medical journals on topics relating to infertility. In addition, he has also delivered scientific presentations to colleagues and peers both locally and nationally.
Dr. Spirtos previously served as Chief of the Division of Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility and In Vitro Fertilization/Embryo Transfer at Akron City Hospital, where he is currently affiliated. He is a past president of the Akron Obstetrical and Gynecological Society and is a member of several other professional societies.
Born in Chicago of Greek heritage, Dr. Spirtos comes from a family of physicians, extending from his father to four uncles. Dr. Spirtos operates his fertility center by the same timeless values that his parents instilled in him. He insists on integrity, cost efficiency, and a caring, family-like setting for those who seek his help. Except for vacations, Dr. Spirtos works seven days a week. As he explains, women ovulate seven days a week!
Patients see Dr. Spirtos on each visit, as he personally performs ultrasounds and other procedures himself. By tending to routine matters, he can better understand the nuances of each couple’s circumstances. He knows from experience that small details can reveal pathways to personalized treatment strategies most likely to result in pregnancy. His infertility treatments have resulted in nearly 6,000 births.
“I provide honest opinions to my patients and help them make well-informed decisions,” notes Dr. Spirtos.
