Intra-Cytoplasmic Sperm Injection

invitro1Intra-Cytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI) refers to the injection of a single sperm into an egg as a means of achieving fertilization.

ICSI is often used when male infertility conditions such as poor sperm quality or a low sperm count prevent fertilization, or when previous attempts at In Vitro fertilization (IVF) have failed. ICSI can become an additional step in the IVF process.

Following ICSI, an egg injected with sperm is placed in culture and checked the following day for signs of fertilization.
